Vandoliers take "Life Behind Bars" to Europe opening for Skinny Lister

Tue 11 Nov 2025

Vandoliers are doing their part to keep the spirit of alt-country alive with their raucous blend of punk, country, and mariachi. In other words, they’re the quintessential Texas dive bar band. Texas country-punk ensemble Vandoliers released their fifth studio album, “Life Behind Bars“, The album marks several firsts for the band, but most importantly, this collection of songs offers a window into frontwoman Jenni (Gin-ee) Rose’s journey through addiction and gender dysphoria – a journey that has culminated in her decision to come out as a trans woman which she opened up about in an extensive new interview with Rolling Stone.

They’ve long been outspoken supporters of the queer community, going viral for protesting the Tennessee Drag Band by performing in dresses as a protest; that was when lead singer Jenni Rose realized that she may be a member of the LGBTQIA+ community herself. And so, the band’s fifth and newest album, Life Behind Bars (released June 27), finds the Vandoliers exploring the wild desert landscape of the heart: sobriety, grief, gender dysphoria — and joy in liberation.

Vandoliers share a music video for the album's title track, a plaintive song with multiple meanings that was co-written with Rose and bandmate Cory Graves, as well as Joshua Ray Walker and John Pedigo. The band also just announced a string of fall tour dates as main support for Skinny Lister. Jenni Rose on the debut single: "This song has four writers, and each came with a different perspective for what the title means. For Cory, it was bartending. For Joshua Ray Walker, it was jail. For John Pedigo, it was the grind of being in a working band. For me, it was dysphoria. We all connected through a shared sense of being trapped—like we were all 'on the edge of oblivion.'"
