American Aquarium return to NL / UK with new album "New Ways To Lose"
Wed 28 Oct 2026After 20 years, 20 records and more than 4,000 shows, American Aquarium continue to find new ways to move forward. Led by frontman and songwriter BJ Barham, the North Carolina band returns with New Ways to Lose, a driving rock & roll record that reflects two decades of resilience, reinvention and hard-earned perspective.
Produced by Grammy-winning producer Shooter Jennings, the album was recorded in Los Angeles over ten days, capturing the band largely live in the studio. Towering choruses, piano-driven arrangements, horn sections and soaring guitars bring the energy of their celebrated live shows to the recordings, while Barham's songwriting explores small-town America, relationships, loss and the challenges of growing older. Drawing on the spirit of heartland rock heroes like Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and Neil Young, New Ways to Lose balances full-throttle rock & roll with the emotional honesty that has defined American Aquarium throughout their career.
Formed in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2006, American Aquarium have built an international following through relentless touring and a fiercely independent approach, earning their place without major-label backing or mainstream radio support. With New Ways to Lose, Barham and his bandmates reaffirm their commitment to doing things their own way. This November, American Aquarium return to Europe for a short run of UK and Netherlands shows, bringing their powerful live show back to audiences on this side of the Atlantic.
