Abigail Lapell brings "Shadow Child" to Europe in November

Fri 30 Oct 2026

Toronto singer-songwriter Abigail Lapell returns with Shadow Child, a new album exploring the joys, losses and transformations of motherhood. Written during her first pregnancy, the nine-song collection follows the nine months of gestation, pairing intimate songwriting with a stark, acoustic sound. Working with producer Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, Black Mountain) on Vancouver Island, Lapell enlisted fellow Canadian singer-songwriters Frazey Ford, Jill Barber and Pharis Romero to contribute their distinctive voices to the record.

Shadow Child follows 2024’s Juno Award-nominated Anniversary and 2022’s Stolen Time. Drawing on her own difficult journey to motherhood, including years of IVF treatment and a miscarriage in 2023, Lapell explores themes of joy and loss, reproductive health and the life-changing arrival of a newborn. The album was released on May 8, and Lapell brings its songs to Europe in November, with a series of performances in the Netherlands, Germany, France and Italy:
