Weird Nightmare comes with "Hoopla"; tour announced including two Dutch shows

Former METZ frontman Alex Edkins is back with Hoopla, the vibrant and hook-packed new album from his power-pop project Weird Nightmare, out Friday, May 1, 2026. Released worldwide via Sub Pop, the record marks Edkins’ second LP under the Weird Nightmare name and finds him fully leaning into melody without losing the bite that made METZ such a formidable force.

Co-produced by Edkins alongside Spoon’s Jim Eno and recorded at Machines With Magnets in Providence, Hoopla expands Weird Nightmare’s sonic palette with piano, bells, and other shimmering textures layered onto Edkins’ direct, emotionally charged songwriting. Drawing from decades of rock ’n’ roll—from ’60s psychedelia to ’90s DIY—Hoopla is a sharp, exhilarating collection bursting with earworms and classic power-pop punch.

Following the Stereogum-praised single “Forever Elsewhere,” Weird Nightmare has shared a new official video for “Might See You There,” a nostalgic, big-hearted track inspired by hometown memories and teenage isolation. Directed by CC Mulligan, the video arrives as Edkins prepares to take the band on an extensive 2026 tour, with North American, UK, and European dates kicking off in April and running through September, including two Dutch shows:
