Weird Nightmare brings "Hoopla" to the Netherlands

Alex Edkins, best known as the singer and guitarist of Canadian noise-rock trio METZ, returns with Hoopla, the vibrant second album from his power-pop project Weird Nightmare. Released worldwide via Sub Pop on May 1, the album finds Edkins leaning further into melody while retaining the fuzz and bite of his METZ years.

Co-produced by Edkins and Spoon’s Jim Eno and recorded at Machines With Magnets in Providence, Hoopla blends sharp guitar pop with influences ranging from ’60s psychedelia and ’90s DIY rock to The Replacements, Elvis Costello & The Attractions and modern indie pop. Packed with hooks, harmonies and shimmering textures, it marks a significant step forward from Weird Nightmare’s self-titled 2022 debut.

Weird Nightmare will bring Hoopla to the Netherlands for two shows this September:
