Twin devils of beat and distortion The Courettes in Nijmegen next weekend
Mon 22 Jun 2026The Courettes don’t just play rock ’n’ roll — they detonate it. Since forming in 2014, the Brazilian-Danish duo of Flavia Couri and Martin Couri have built a reputation for turning every stage into a fuzzed-out, sweat-soaked celebration of garage rock chaos and Wall of Sound perfection.
Pulling equally from 1960s girl groups, early punk, and blown-out garage rock, The Courettes somehow manage to sound both timeless and completely out of control. Their album Back in Mono turned heads with its massive Phil Spector-inspired production and sharp songwriting, while 2024’s The Soul Of... The Fabulous Courettes pushed things even further — diving headfirst into early soul, cinematic pop, and richer harmonies without sacrificing any of their grit or bite.
What started as a DIY operation has turned into one of the most beloved live bands on the European rock circuit. With more than 800 shows across 20-plus countries, releases on Damaged Goods Records, and praise from outlets like Rolling Stone, MOJO, and BBC Radio 6, The Courettes have earned their place as modern custodians of beautifully loud music.
But records only tell part of the story. The real magic happens onstage, where the duo transforms vintage rock ’n’ roll into something wild, stylish, and impossible to fake. The Courettes are heading back to the Netherlands for one show this month:
