The Lowest Pair come with new album "Always As Young As We’ll Ever Be" and Europe tour starting soon
Thu 08 Jan 2026The Lowest Pair have always been less interested in tidy resolutions than in the charged space between them. The duo—Kendl Winter and Palmer T. Lee—write folk songs that linger in contradiction, asking what might happen if we stop trying to outrun grief, doubt, or longing and instead learn to live alongside them. “Fare thee well and go to hell, I love you and I’m mad at you,” Winter says with a laugh, summing up a creative tension that fuels their work: wishing things were different while loving them exactly as they are.
That philosophy hums through Always As Young As We’ll Ever Be, the Lowest Pair’s eighth album and their most expansive to date. Produced by Tucker Martine (The Decemberists), the record widens the duo’s stark, string-driven sound without dulling its emotional edge. Built on deep listening—between Winter and Lee, and with a circle of trusted collaborators—the songs feel alive and responsive, shaped as much by space and restraint as by melody. “We’re trying to make room for each other,” Lee says, describing a partnership rooted in attention rather than dominance.
Across the album, the Lowest Pair explore cycles of darkness and light with warmth and clarity, pairing vivid natural imagery with questions about time, love, and uncertainty. The result is music that doesn’t promise answers so much as companionship—songs that sit with the mess and, in doing so, find something quietly magical inside it.
