The Animeros confirm appearances at Roots & Roses and Rhythm & Blues Night
Wed 28 Jan 2026With musical notes that stretch far beyond bolero, psychedelic, and cumbia, The Animeros continue to carve out a sound that is as transportive as it is deeply rooted. The Austin-based trio — Nick Tozzo (drums and percussion), Nicolas Sanchez (bass), and Mauro Lopez (guitar) — blend their rich cultural backgrounds into music that drifts between the lush jungles of Colombia, the palm-lined streets of 1960s coastal Mexico, and the dusty cantinas of West Texas, all while keeping dance floors in constant motion.
Formed through a shared devotion to Latin American traditions, jazz improvisation, and cross-border musical dialogue, The Animeros’ chemistry reflects their individual journeys. Sanchez grew up immersed in Colombian salsa and cumbia, Lopez was raised on a mix of Mexican, American, Tejano, and jazz records, and Tozzo’s passion for jazz and salsa led him to study and live in Colombia. Together, and shaped by Austin’s innovative creative energy, they’ve built a genre-blurring sonic movement named after Colombian shamans said to guide lost souls to peace.
Their rise took a pivotal turn when Grammy Award–winning producer Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys) discovered the band by chance, hearing their music float from an open hotel window. Captivated, he tracked them down, eventually signing them to his Easy Eye Sound label. The Animeros are now preparing to release their debut album in 2026, produced entirely by Auerbach.
As momentum builds, The Animeros are set to bring their hypnotic live show to Europe, announcing two performances in Belgium and the Netherlands in early May 2026. The shows mark an important step in the band’s expanding international journey, introducing their rhythm-driven sound to new audiences just ahead of their debut album release:
