Strung Out in The Netherlands this weekend for exclusive festival show

If early punks can point to 1977 as the defining year of the genre, then Generation X and Y punk fans can make a similar case for 1994. Widely regarded as the year of the punk revival, it marked the moment when punk rock returned to the global spotlight, becoming—for better or worse—a mainstream phenomenon.

Now, 36 years after forming in Simi Valley, Strung Out celebrate that legacy with the release of their tenth studio album, Dead Rebellion, once again on Fat Wreck Chords.

Heavy, dark, and visceral, Dead Rebellion is unmistakably a Strung Out record, containing all the elements that have made the band a staple of melodic hardcore for decades. Arguably one of their heaviest and most metal-influenced releases, the album draws from every era of the band's career. Throughout most of its runtime, I was reminded of the atmosphere and intensity of Exile in Oblivion and Blackhawks Over Los Angeles, while tracks like "Dystopian Party Bus" evoke the technical, melodic brilliance of Twisted by Design.
