Southern gothic punk-folk cult favorites The Pine Hill Haints return with their latest album, Shattered Pieces Of The True Cross, out since May 30 on Single Lock Records. Recorded live at the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio with Grammy-winning producer Ben Tanner, the record captures the band’s eerie blend of punk energy, country balladry, and Appalachian folk traditions.

Formed in Auburn, Alabama, the Haints emerged from a DIY punk scene steeped in late-night skate sessions and cemetery lore. Led by Jamie Barrier, a native of Muscle Shoals, the band channels the mystical undercurrents of the South while staying true to their fiercely independent roots. Over the years, they’ve toured with everyone from Charlie Louvin to Dead Moon, never compromising their raw, hand-crafted sound.

The new album weaves tales of heartbreak and haunted dreams through tracks like “Haint Blue,” “Drinking With the Prince,” and a reimagining of the Grateful Dead’s “Loser.” With their signature washtub bass, washboard, and fiddle in tow, The Pine Hill Haints deliver what they call their Alabama Ghost Country Sound—timeless, unpolished, and undeniably their own.

The band will support the release with a European and UK tour in June and July, bringing their spectral sound to a whole new audience:
