Skating Polly are back in Europe: tour starting next week
Wed 24 Sep 2025Over the past decade, Skating Polly has carved out a singular space in punk by refusing to follow any one path. Formed by stepsisters Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse in their preteens, the Oklahoma trio—now joined by Kelli’s brother Kurtis Mayo—calls their sound “ugly-pop,” a volatile mix of raw energy and razor-sharp melody. That fierce originality has earned them a devoted fanbase and admiration from punk icons like Exene Cervenka and Calvin Johnson. On their double album Chaos County Line, they reach new creative heights, delivering their most expansive and emotionally powerful work yet.
Produced by indie-rock legend Brad Wood, Chaos County Line spans everything from noise-rock to piano-driven power-pop, tied together by Skating Polly’s fearless songwriting. This time, Kelli and Peyton write with more clarity and emotional precision, digging into themes of identity, power, and self-destruction. Tracks like “Hickey King” and “Double Decker” showcase their dual perspectives and unfiltered honesty, while moments like “Rabbit Food” burst with pure punk delirium. It’s a record that embraces messiness without apology—and finds power in doing so.
What sets Skating Polly apart is their refusal to flinch from hard truths. Whether confronting toxic dynamics or calling themselves out with punk-laced self-awareness, they deliver each track with cathartic intensity. With Chaos County Line, the band turns vulnerability into something explosive—and in the process, offers listeners both connection and armor.
