Robert Ellis' tour is approaching, taking out Jenny O to support
26-10-2016Robert Ellis has a moon suit. Or a cosmic suit. Or, whatever you want to call it, the kind of suit that demands more than a cursory glance. In the opening of his new “California” video, it’s one of the first thing you see, right after the carousel lights and the initially lit-up faces of two lovers approaching one another. One character is played by Ellis, the other, by a woman who is actually the main character of the song. This previous paragraph was stolen from UpRoxx, who did a nice write up about the case study in heartache this song actually is. Check it out here, and the video below:
Robert Ellis has named his new album after himself and the reason is clear. The album is both his most personal statement yet and a summation of his career thus far. Robert Ellis opens with “Perfect Strangers,” a meditation on what brings people together (and how tenuous that connection can be), and ends with “It's Not OK,” a raw look at emotional compromise. Between those two powerful bookends are nine other songs that set Ellis's soaring vocals and knowing melodies against his sharp, dark observations, and that show him in full command of a vibrant set of songwriting skills—irony, distance, character, narrative, a thoughtful relationship between sound and sense.
We're so excited to see the man in the moon suit return to Europe next month, and we're excited to announce they will bring Jenny O to open on the shows. Embodying a freewheeling California sound, Jenny O continues her lo-fi songwriting style with a new EP named "WORK". KCRW has featured "Cheer Up Free Your Mind" as Top Tune.
