Pert Near Sandstone is back after six years: European tour in July

Fri 21 Feb 2025

For more than twenty years, Pert Near Sandstone has been a staple in contemporary bluegrass, but a status quo is anything but the case. With every tour and every album, the band continues to evolve. So, after their electrifying performances on festivals and in clubs in 2019, it’s high time to invite the American quartet back once again.

The members of Pert Near Sandstone have known each other since childhood in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. With a literally lifelong shared history, it’s no wonder these musicians are so perfectly in sync. Their roots leave a strong Midwest imprint on the music of the Appalachian region—the southeastern mountain range that serves as the cradle of bluegrass. They bring swinging old-time music with a modern twist, delivered with infectious enthusiasm that sets every audience ablaze. But don’t expect them to stick to just one gear— with four songwriters in the band, variety is guaranteed. Both vocally and instrumentally, each member possesses the skills to bring their self-penned songs to life.

On their eighth album, Waiting Days (2023), they continue to expand and refine their modern string band sound. Lyrically, they address the concerns and tensions of today’s society, but just as easily sing about vintage bluegrass themes like trains and life on the road. The result is a well-balanced record with room for every emotion, stunning melodies, masterful musical interplay, and boundless energy. In short, everything you need for an unforgettable show.
