Malin Pettersen to release "Seasons" in September and announces new dates in November
28-06-2024Malin Pettersen’s solo debut References Pt. 1 won her a Spellemann Award (Norwegian Grammy), but it was the acoustic EP Alonesome that lifted her name to prominence outside of her native country and gained international attention. Millions of streams as well as praise from outlets such as Billboard Magazine, Rolling Stone Country and Paste Magazine followed.
The EP Seasons, to be released in September, is the logical sequel to Alonesome. The project is DIY in all aspects. Pettersen recorded the tracks herself, at home in her wardrobe closet– it was the place in her apartment with the best sound and the least noise. She produced it herself, took her own press photos and designed all artwork herself. In safe and sound surroundings in the closet, Pettersen does what she does best; sings songs where lyrics and melody are the core elements, and where her voice carries the listener to a place outside of time and space.
Malin Pettersen is a restless and constantly exploring artist, who never makes the same album twice. The Spellemann-nominated album Wildhorse was recorded in Nashville with local musicians, while last year’s critically lauded R&B and pop-inspired record, Trouble Finding Words, was created in close collaboration with producer Martin Horntveth of Jaga Jazzist.
On Seasons you hear Malin Pettersen as intimately as possible, complete with breathing, creaking, scraping – and that voice. Incorporating references such as Joni Mitchell, Iris DeMent and Lisa Ekdahl into her own unique expression, the new songs showcase a songwriter in constant evolution. It isn’t hard to comprehend how Pettersen has captivated listeners ever since she started making music – or that she will continue to do so for many a season going forward.
With Seasons to come two shows in the Netherlands have been planned:
14/11: Veldhoven, NL - Theater De Schalm*
15/11: Amen, NL - Cultureel Café de Amer
* with Tim Easton
