Lydia Lunch & Marc Hurtado perform songs by Suicide and Alan Vega in Haarlem this month!

Lydia Lunch first encountered Alan Vega and Martin Rev of Suicide when she arrived in New York at the age of sixteen. Attending a Suicide concert for the first time was a profound shock for her — a revelation of an entirely new kind of live performance: intense, theatrical, unrestrained, and confrontational. From that moment on, a deep bond developed between them, both artistically and personally. Lydia Lunch later joined Suicide on stage and appeared on their recording of “Frankie Teardrop”. In 2010, she also recorded a duet with Alan Vega for the album Sniper, by Alan Vega and Marc Hurtado.

Marc Hurtado had already collaborated with both Alan Vega and Lydia Lunch on Étant Donnés’ Re-Up album in 1999. In 2013, he and Lydia Lunch formed the project My Lover The Killer, resulting in an album and live performances together. Since 2014, Lydia Lunch and Marc Hurtado have combined their forces to present a project dedicated to the music of Suicide and Alan Vega. What emerges is a raw sonic assault — a kind of musical blitzkrieg — paired with a ritualistic, shamanic visual experience, in which both artists fully immerse themselves in the explosive core of Suicide and Alan Vega’s sound.

Lydia Lunch is a restless, ever-evolving artist whose devotion to her work has repeatedly pushed her to the edge over a career spanning more than three decades. A musician, author, photographer, and performance artist, she emerged from the New York underground in 1977 as a founding figure of the No Wave movement with Teenage Jesus & the Jerks. Driven by collaboration and creative exchange, she has worked with artists and writers such as Karen Finley, Hubert Selby Jr., Nick Cave, William S. Burroughs, and Virginie Despentes. She has lived across the United States and Europe, and has performed in over 650 cities worldwide, presenting concerts, spoken-word pieces, and installations in clubs, theaters, and museums.
