Kate Clover returns to the Netherlands

Kate Clover is a Los Angeles native whose music is deeply rooted in the city’s rich punk heritage. Inspired by the legacy of bands such as X, Germs, and The Gun Club, as well as the rough-edged glamour of downtown Los Angeles, Clover draws from the city she grew up in. Her work explores themes of self-discovery, self-invention, and survival in a place where ambition and failure exist side by side. Charged with raw energy and the force of a raised fist, her music feels like a call to arms from a born rebel. With her electric presence and uncompromising attitude, Clover has emerged as a new generation underground hero for those willing to follow.

With Patti Smith and Iggy Pop serving as major influences, Clover began with just three chords before heading to art school. There, she learned to play “Chinese Rocks” by Johnny Thunders and wrote her first song. After gaining experience in several different projects, she eventually chose to pursue a solo career, driven by a desire for complete independence and creative control.

In 2024, Clover released her second album, The Apocalypse Dream, on April 5th. The record was produced by Jonah Falco (Fucked Up, Chubby and the Gang, The Chisel), co-written by Brandon Welchez (Crocodiles) and mixed by Carlos de la Garza. The album was followed by a full North American tour, a European tour and a performance at Punk Rock Bowling. In the fall of 2024, she returned to North America for another tour, this time supporting JD McPherson.

Clover grew up around the alternative worlds of skateboarding and surfing, developing an early fascination with the distinctive spirit of West Coast counterculture. She was drawn to the rough innocence of the outsiders and restless young people around her. A turning point came when she discovered her brother’s copy of photographer Glen E. Friedman’s book Fuck You Heroes. In its images of punk musicians and their surroundings, Clover recognized something of herself. She was particularly drawn to the sense of rebellion and courage captured in the photographs. Those images helped give direction to a feeling of unrest that was already growing inside her. Weekends spent at the beach gradually became weekends spent at shows, and she quickly found a place where she felt at home. Determined to become an artist herself, Clover immersed herself fully in the world and liberating power of rock ’n’ roll.
