Hackensaw Boys mark 20 Years of "Love What You Do" with 2025 European tour
Thu 25 Sep 2025This year, the Hackensaw Boys will hit the road for a European tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of their beloved album Love What You Do. The band could’ve honored any release from their deep catalog, but this one stands out—for fans and for founding member David Sickmen, the last original member still performing. “It was our first label release, and it still lives up to its title,” he says. Blending bluegrass, punk, and folk into something uniquely their own, the album remains a landmark of Americana’s more rebellious side.
Known for their no-nonsense energy and genre-defying style, the Hackensaw Boys have spent over 25 years evolving while staying true to their roots. That spirit lives on in every show—often punctuated by the “charismo,” a homemade percussion instrument that’s become a fan favorite. Tracks like “We Are Many” still resonate deeply, thanks to their themes of unity and resistance. Recorded across cities like Charlottesville, San Francisco, and Amsterdam, Love What You Do captures the restless, road-worn soul of the band.
With nearly 40 members cycling through over the years, the Hackensaw Boys operate more like a musical collective than a traditional band. “There’s always fresh energy,” says Sickmen. Despite the challenges of touring and keeping a band alive in a tough industry, he remains grateful. “The most rewarding part is seeing how the music impacts people’s lives. That’s why we give 100% every night—so people leave our shows feeling better than when they walked in.”
