August/September shows for Sonido Gallo Negro announced
Wed 25 Mar 2026
Sonido Gallo Negro is a band from Mexico City that goes back to the roots of psychedelic tropical music. With guitars, eccentric organs, analog synthesizers, and theremin, they create a distinctive, almost hallucinatory sound. Their music blends exotic rarity with esoteric elements that alter perception and compel listeners to dance until exhaustion.
The band draws inspiration from 1960s Peruvian cumbia while incorporating styles such as huayno, sonidero, boogaloo, and chicha. These influences are combined with elements of neo-psychedelia, surf music, and even spaghetti western soundtracks. The result is a layered, rhythmic, and immersive musical experience driven by both traditional Latin percussion and electronic textures.
A key part of their identity is their visual performance. Their shows are accompanied by hypnotic projections and live visuals by Dr. Alderete, creating a total experience where sound and image merge. Often dressed in striking outfits, the band builds a mysterious, almost ritualistic atmosphere on stage.
Since their formation in 2010, Sonido Gallo Negro has toured extensively across Europe and the Americas. They have performed in more than 20 countries and over 50 cities, building a strong international live reputation. With multiple studio albums, a live album, and special collaborations, they have become one of the most recognized and representative bands from Mexico City.
