Angela Autumn brings "Believer" to Take Root Festival
Fri 06 Nov 2026Appalachian-born musician Angela Autumn, known as “The Rose of Appalachia”, brings her distinctive blend of mountain roots and modern sounds to this year’s Take Root Festival in Groningen. Raised in the Allegheny region outside Pittsburgh, Autumn grew up surrounded by music and nature, developing an early connection to Appalachian traditions. Having picked up guitar and banjo at 19, she has since made the clawhammer banjo an essential part of her sound, combining traditional influences with country, indie rock and experimental elements.
Her Take Root appearance follows the release of Believer, her second album, out September 11 via Gar Hole Records. Written in the Tennessee woods, a treehouse outside Asheville and a warehouse near Chattanooga, the record draws heavily on the natural world, exploring themes of love, faith, longing and personal freedom. Made with multi-instrumentalist and producer Baerd (Isaiah Beard), Believer moves between intimate folk storytelling and warm, slightly psychedelic arrangements, bringing together mountain music, indie, psychedelia, pop and gothic country. While Autumn takes an unconventional approach to Appalachian traditions, her music remains deeply rooted in the landscape and sounds that shaped her.
