Abigail Lapell & Steph Cameron bring their new albums over to Europe for a tour
Mon 12 May 2025Toronto songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Abigail Lapell returns with More Songs About Love, a companion to her JUNO-nominated 2025 album Anniversary. Produced with Tony Dekker of Great Lake Swimmers and recorded in a 200-year-old church, Anniversary blends haunting intimacy with lush, orchestral folk as it explores love’s complexities—its rituals, contradictions, and lasting echoes. Drawing on personal milestones like turning 40, the loss of her father, and family weddings and births, Lapell offers a nuanced, 40-something vision of romance shaped by memory and time.
More Songs About Love expands that world with eight new, stripped-down tracks, including acoustic versions of Anniversary highlights, a French take on fan favourite “Rattlesnake,” and covers like Tame Impala’s “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards.” Balancing bittersweet ballads with understated charm, the collection deepens Lapell’s meditation on love’s fleeting and eternal nature. With three Canadian Folk Music Awards already under her belt and four more 2025 nominations, Lapell continues to carve out a singular voice in contemporary folk.
Polaris Music Prize nominee Steph Cameron returns with Blood Moon (April 2025), her most expansive and first full-band album. Co-produced by JUNO-winner John Raham, the record features standout players from Frazey Ford, City and Colour, and The Dead South. Blending 1960s British folk with ‘70s country and rock influences, Blood Moon nods to Fairport Convention and Joni Mitchell while showcasing Cameron’s distinct voice and poetic storytelling.
Already drawing acclaim in Europe, the album has been praised as “nostalgic and thoroughly modern” and “crafted, thoughtful, and quietly intense.” From the energetic single “Rain” to the politically charged “Seventeen,” Blood Moon explores personal and societal themes with grace and grit.
