Legendary Shack Shakers announce European dates in support of "Cockadoodle-Deux"

07-05-2021

The Legendary Shack Shakers have announced rescheduled European tour dates for 2022 in support of their forthcoming album, Cockadoodle-Deux, which marks their twenty-fifth anniversary as a band.

The tour begins in late June and includes dates in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and the UK. Prior to the band’s tour, frontman J.D. Wilkes will do a solo tour in March, a co-bill with Dom Flemons, that includes stops in Belgium, the Netherlands, and the UK.

Scheduled for a September 2021 release on the San Francisco-based Alternative Tentacles label, Cockadoodle-Deux features the Shack Shakers current lineup of founder/frontman/multi-instrumentalist Wilkes, guitarist Gary Siperko, bassist Fuller Condon, and drummer Preston Corn, as well as a number of former band members, including Chris Scruggs, Morgan Jahnig of Old Crow Medicine Show, and Wilkes’ longtime partner Mark Robertson. The band is also joined by an array of special guests, such as Jello Biafra and a pair of Kentucky musical legends, guitarist Stanley Walker and dobroist Jack Martin.

The title is a nod to the band’s 2002 breakout record, Cockadoodle-Don’t. “A lot of fans first discovered the group on that album, and the new record was intended to be a bookend to that one,” Wilkes explains.

The band recorded Cockadoodle-Deux at Time on the String studio in Paducah, Kentucky, with Jake Steiner handling the engineering, mixing, and mastering. Musically, the album explores the many facets of Country & Western, from Spaghetti Western, Western swing, and Tex Mex to rockabilly, bluegrass, and Americana. Wilkes penned ten of the album’s twelve tracks, the other two being covers of the theme from the ’60s TV series Rawhide and the Harlan Howard-Bobby Braddock cowrite, “I Don’t Remember Loving You,” which was a Top 10 hit in 1982 for John Conlee.
